Cal-SOAP Scholars
This program for 9th graders in the San Diego District is offered two times a year. It is a four-session program where students learn about SAT/ACT test preparation and receive the book Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens. Applications are due in August.Back To Top

College Peer Advising
Cal-SOAP's advisement component utilizes a network of College Peer Advisors trained to provide support for school counseling personnel at high schools in the San Diego and Imperial Counties. College Peer Advisors serve as role models and work with more than 8,000 high school juniors and seniors in small groups and for one-on-one intensive advisement. They share personal college experiences and help students to complete applications for college and financial aid.Back To Top

GEAR UP
Back To TopGEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a college awareness program that assists seventh grade students in preparation for high school graduation and college admission.
Students participating in GEAR UP receive intensive academic support and follow up that will last through their senior year in high school. This support includes tutoring in math and science, college tours of area universities, mentoring, assistance with college applications and financial aid information, summer educational experiences on a college campus, and practice in test-taking and college admissions exams.

Presentations
This program and service is provided at the request of schools, teachers, parent groups, or community organizations. Its purpose is to disseminate information to educators and students regarding higher academic achievement and postsecondary opportunities.Back To Top

PSAT Scholars
This is a six session intensive preparation course held during the summer to prepare rising 11th grade students to take the PSAT in October of their junior year. It is conducted in partnership with University of San Diego Test Preparation Courses. Applications are available each April and are due by the end of each May. PSAT Scholars for Summer 2008 has been canceled due to the lack of funding. We hope to offer it again at a future time.Back To Top

Test Preparation
Cal-SOAP test preparation programs provide students with test-taking strategies and encourage students to take all their college entrance exams in a timely manner.
SAT/ACT Preparation Workshops for juniors are offered in the spring and emphasize test-taking strategies. Workshops are offered in Sweetwater and San Diego Unified Districts; check the Events link for specific events. Other test-prep workshops are held by request.
